January is usually our time to slow down. The previous years wedding season is done, and the next is waiting to start, so it is the perfect time for us to get away, recharge our batteries and attempt some Marrakesh travel photography.

The only issue of course, is that more often than not our winter holidays are SO cold! We’ve enjoyed some beautiful trips to Paris & Copenhagen in recent years but this year we were craving some warmth and the ability to go outside without 7 jumpers on. So we settled on Marrakesh.
We’ve never visited Morocco before, and while we were excited about the food, the scenery and the art…we weren’t really sure what to expect. Let’s just say that walking into the Medina on day one was a sensory overload! So many smells, sounds, motorbikes and SO many people!

To be totally honest we got back to our Riad on the first evening not sure we would be able to handle the next 8 days…But we went back, and back, and back again. We explored the souks, went on mountain hikes, waterfall trips and met some incredible people. We realised that the hustle of the Medina is part of the charm of Marrkaesh and that outside of the Medina walls there was so much more to see.

By day 8 we were practically trying to move into our Riad! We didn’t take our digital cameras, instead choosing to embrace 35mm film and capture some memories for ourselves in a more slow and mindful way. We took 2 rolls of Silbersalz 250D Colour Film and 2 rolls of Fuji Velvia 100 Slide Film and we had them developed and scanned by Take it Easy Lab in Leeds - our go to for all our film needs!

As full time wedding photographers sometimes we forget to document our own lives, so this was the perfect opportunity to get excited about using our cameras right at the start of the year! We wanted to share a few of our frames and show a little bit of what we love behind the scenes of weddings with everyone, so here you go…
